…..So yesterday we had our end of the year blow out seminar featuring Rich Parsons. One thing you can say about Rich is that he is a great teacher. Every time I train with him I see some thing new or some thing that I already know is enhanced. We started out with the stick and went right into some Balintawak which is simply a fierce in close up and personal style of stick fighting. Rich is a direct student of Manong Ted Buot and teaches in that tradition. So we went to work on Takas and Sublique and how to work them together in a drill. Really good stuff and some thing that can definitely improve your inside stick game. Rich then went on to show more Balintawak and I know that everyone was enjoying it! During the course of the stick portion of the seminar Mike Bacon came up from the Michigan Martial Arts Project and did a quick interview and then took some video footage so go to his site and I am sure it will be up soon. …..After a couple of hours of stick work we went into blade work utilizing the same concept and looking at a quick style of learning how to defensively fight with the blade. Great stuff and very easy and efficient. Then we moved into combing the earlier Balintawak stick concepts with a stick and blade.
All in all this was an awesome seminar with one of my favorite people to train with so if you get a chance to train with Rich please do so as you will not be disappointed!!!
…..Your next opportunity is the weekend of October 16,17, and 18th as Rich is teaching up north in Michigan here: Mejishi Martial Arts 30th Anniversary Retreat at Song of the Morning Retreat Center
