Passionate!

Besides family life I am completely passionate about the Martial Sciences.  Not just Instinctive Response Training but all of the Martial Sciences and Arts out there.  I like them all and want to explore as much as I can of each one that I come across.  The other day I ran into another long time practicing martial artist.  After talking we decided to get together and exchange ideas and training methodology.  It was a really good exchange of information as I was unfamiliar with his systems movement and of course he was very curious about Instinctive Response Training.  This exchange was mutually beneficial for each of us and now we plan to get together regularly to practice.  The mutual passion for the Martial Sciences allows us to exchange ideas, get new perspective and have another partner to spar, roll, train technique with.  With the Martial Sciences you could say that I am all in.  It is a part of me and because I am so passionate I constantly seek out opportunities to learn more.  If you too can cultivate passion in your training and you couple it with longevity then you will be surprised on how long you can train and keep learning.   So how do you cultivate this passion?  Train.  It really is that simple!  Train and if you enjoy it you will more than likely become very, very passionate.  If you do that then you can take that passion and pursue your training and knowledge of the Martial Sciences.  So go for it or as they say on Nike commercials Just Do It!

Some of the most amazing time in my MA training were when I could work with people from other styles. Many years ago when my first sifu allowed a bunch of us to hang out, and others to show up, on Saturdays afternoons, after classes were done and just trade training ideas and spar. It was that sparing multiple styles that was truly amazing, just experiencing different approaches to a confrontation.

It was a wonderful time to be in a room of a 6 to 12 martial artists who were all very passionate about their art that also seemed to have nothing to prove. It was simply awesome and I do miss it, but I am still searching, exploring and I am once again investigating other styles. I’m even back training Yoga to see how it can help or enhance my martial arts.

Basically I guess I am saying I am with you, and Nike, on this one Brian…. Just Do It

Thanks Tim! It is really good to get out there and experience other people’s passion for their system and methodology in training! I have never tried Yoga but would love to!
