Archery!

Three Out Of Four Bulleye’s! Not too bad! 😉

I love to shoot whether it be a shot-gun, AK 47, 30’06, 22, Handgun, etc.  However, my favorite thing to shoot is one of my  bows.  I love recurves, I love my Korean Horn Bow but when I really, really want to enjoy myself I take out my compound bow and shoot for an hour or two.  You see when I am training in Archery it is like moving meditation.  Everything is forgotten and I am working in a zone.  Draw, Aim, Breath, Relax and let go.  Follow the arrow shaft on its path and hear the thunk.  I have been shooting since I was a young teen.  Some where around thirteen to be exact.  My first recollection was practicing with a recurve and then one of the original compounds bows that I picked up at a used goods place.  My influence on why I wanted to learn was pretty simple.  Tarzan used a bow!  Funny but that was it!  Next thing fast forward a long time and I am still training in Archery albeit at a way more advanced stage.  Still every single time I go to the range it is like pure heaven!  Here is just a few shots from the Archery range here in Clark County that I frequent.  It is a world-class place!

Awesome post Brian! Ive only shot a bow a few times in my life but I did enjoy it. Maybe next time I make it to Vegas you could show me a few tricks.

I heard a story about an ancient archery teacher that didnt even let his students use an actual bow for the first year of training, making them instead focus and master the mental aspects of it. What do you think?

Sounds great Mike I will definitely give you a few tips when you get out here next.

I think in Archery or any endeavor it is important to master the fundamental basics. Not just important but essential! I do feel that you can do this without having to wait a year to shoot a bow though. However, I am sure that anyone who stuck around for a year without shooting would have strong mental aspects for their future training!

Use to be very into archery but it has been a long time, about 15 years since I shot my bow. I have an old compound but I would rather have a re-curve. I use to shoot friends re-curves and I prefer them because I the direct connection between my pull and the release that I just do not get with the compound bow. But since I don’t have the time to even shoot the compound these days my re-curve purchase will have to wait.
