I have seen this before and it is an Interesting two person drill, but it is not taijiquan and it is not sparing

  2. Brian VanCise says:

You know Tim I had a lot of questions regarding this. I was wondering if it might have been a two person form from Taijiquan. Because it certainly does not look like anything I have seen before in respect to Taijiquan. Certainly it is not sparring as you or I wouid define it.

    • Tim says:

It is not any two person form from Taijiquan I have ever seen. I have seen a couple two person forms in Yang from different lineages and one form Chen, but I cannot be sure it is from the Chen family. This may be a traditional form from another family but I think it is something Master Xu Yizhen made up. Nothing wrong with that but I don’t think it is Taijiquan

  3. Tim says:

I should also add that my Yang Sifu places little emphasis on the two person form. He thinks it is a nice thing to learn but he feels training it to much will lock you into a pattern that will get you hurt in a real fight as well as train you to not follow the principles and basics of taijiquan. He has taught it once in the almost 20 years I have been training with him

    • Brian VanCise says:

I personally like two person movement together where there are unpredictable movement that the practitioner has to adjust to. Two person form where both practitioner’s know what is coming conditions a movement that may not be available in a violent encounter. I am sure your teacher probably feels the same way and that is why he has put no emphasis on it.

Would look good on the big screen, choreographed.
