Lately I Have……..

WP_20141129_005

Lately I have been dealing with a tendonitis issue in my right elbow.  Most good day’s it is almost unnoticeable but on a bad day I can hardly lift a cup of coffee without it being extremely painful.  So I have rested it when I can and utilized a compression sleeve made for the elbow to help with stability and to relieve the pain.  On a bad, bad day of course there is a lot of pain medicine as well.

So having the above injury how am I coping with two to three private lessons a day and a couple of group classes each week?  Simply put a man has to do what he has to do.  I perform the best I can and utilize pain medication to keep inflammation down as well as the compression sleeve.  Still, on top of that I also utilize the RICE principle of Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation.

My personal training where I concentrate on just my own skills has not suffered a bit because I simply work around the injury.  I have had some really good growth during this injury and I am hoping to have even more.

If you have an injury find a way to work around it.  Find a way to carry on and continue your training.  If you cannot focus on physical skill sets then work on the mental skill sets within your system.  Visualize, meditate and focus on the areas where you can make some improvement.  Whatever you do just don’t do anything.  Stay in the flow of your training and just work around your injury!

See You On The Mats!

I feel your pain and hope you recover soon. I have been dealing with a tendonitis issue in my left elbow. I am using a compression sleeve but not taking any pain meds. But then I’m married to an acupuncturist so I get needles. Now it is going to snow and I must run the snow blower and shovel so I’m right there with you “a man has to do what he has to do”

    Feel better

  2. Hey Tim, looks like we are both feeling that tendonitis pain. Lucky us I guess. I think I would rather have the needles so I am envious of you. I’m personally not a fan of pain medication or any medication for that matter. But hey, a man has to do what a man has to do right? Get better and hopefully I can get out your way soon and we can have a drink.

anytime Brian, but you may want to wait s few weeks….it is rather cold at the moment. Below zero for the next week or two with wind-chills putting it into the below zero double digits. Just your average February in the Adirondack region
