Why do I teach?  Life saving skills, seeing the light bulb go off, training partners, fitness, and so much more.  Really it is a blessing to teach.  The benefits are two numerous to list with the most significant benefit being all the people you meet and friends you make!  It is though, a decision not to be made lightly.  Some, might wonder why I would say that.  It is a huge commitment of time, energy and resources.  So much so, that you need to think it through carefully to understand if it is what you want.  Do not rush to become a teacher.  If it happens and you are good at it then so be it but don’t rush it!  There is also one other thing, that simply, quite frankly, not everyone should teach.  Not everyone has the make up to be a teacher.   The qualities of a good teacher are in no specific order of: commitment, patience, good oratory skills, critical thinking, the ability to explain a specific movement in multiple ways and methods to reach everyone, etc.  Did I mention patience?  Commitment is also a big one because once you start it is difficult to stop unless you will abandon the people you are responsible for.  I personally teach because I love it but I also know many skilled martial practitioner’s that do not teach.  They simply do not have a teachers personality make up.  That is fine.  Not everyone should teach!  Not everyone wants to teach!  Teach if you love it and have the passion for it.  Not just because.  Do teach if you have the qualities and desire to be a good teacher!  You owe it to the people you will be instructing to be the absolute best teacher that you can be.  Learn how to teach, take classes and perfect the trade.  It is not easy, it is not for everyone but it is rewarding if you love it!
