Upper and Lower a Holistic Approach to Martial Arts!

A good friend of mine once wrote about how the Indonesian Martial Arts take a holistic approach to the Martial Arts that they practice.  This friend, Bob Orlando a great Silat practitioner was refering to how they coordinate the lower leg movement and the upper body movement together to deliver a very formidable package.

So what is this upper and lower movement.  Well imagine if you are engaged with somene on the middle or high line and both are striking quickly and effectively with hand strikes, elbows, etc.  However your legs have been conditioned to dominate the low line as well in the same moment.  Yes, that is right your legs are engaging your opponents legs on the low line and performing Leg Destructions, Foot Traps (stepping on the feet) etc.  Well when you bring the two together in a practitioner of the true martial systems then you have something special to behold.  I cannot tell you how many times I have stepped on someones foot only to have them freeze and then well for me anything was possible. (strike, takedown, throw, finalizing movement, etc.)   It does take time to get the upper body and the lower body moving together nicely but once it is achieved, well look out!

If you have not started working on Leg Destructions, Foot Trapping etc. in conjunction with Hand Strikes, Elbows then what are you waiting for?  Find someone who knows how to show you how it is done and begin this type of Holistic approach to martial science!

Those that train hard are fearsome when confronted!
