Video Footage of Shooter at Washington Navy Yard And Nairobi Mall Shooting

If you practice the Martial Sciences you need to understand that criminals, people not in their right minds, etc. utilize weapons to commit their heinous crimes.  Recently we all watched as the shootings happened in the Washington Navy Yard.  In looking at this from an overall security procedure you have to wonder how he was able to so easily get a security clearance based on his past issues in life but also how was he so easily able to get a shotgun into the facility.  Are there no check points, security, etc. or are these facilities poorly protected.  We also need to look at this from an individual martial practitioner’s perspective.  A work place perspective.   Meaning what would you do in this situation?  How would you ensure your survival and those around you.   These are serious questions and are you prepared?

In the other recent shooting we witnessed in horror a terrorist group from Somalia invade and kill over sixty people in an upscale Nairobi Shopping Mall.  Now I do not know about you but I go to the mall and shop.  Maybe not all that often but I understand that it could be a target for a crazy person, militia group or terrorist group.  The question is what are we doing to keep these areas where people congregate safe and if some thing happens do you have a plan?

In both of the above situations you should have a plan of escape set up at all times. You should no where the exits are as well as knowing that you can move through any store and exit out the back into a corridor that may get you out quickly. You also have need to have a  plan of neutralizing an attacker or attackers until an escape opportunity presents itself.  Neither one is an easy situation as all of the heinous criminals in both were armed and not afraid to take a life.  If some thing violent happens, sense this and take appropriate actions when needed!

As a practitioner of the Martial Sciences we need to look at any and all violent situations and work through what would have been the best course of action (choosing the right path) to survive and get out alive.  Each situation may require different methods and or strategy to survive unscathed.  Research everything out there, get the facts and always look at what was done and what could have been done better.
