Dan Anderson and Ken Blackburn
There is something special about getting out on the mats and working with your friends. There is something even more special when practicing the specialty of blade work whether Filipino or otherwise. Now a day’s we are so close and everyone is within only hours of each other due to flight. Really you can train with almost anyone by having them fly to you or you flying to their location. So I bring people in from time to time (pretty regularly) to give IRT practitioner’s a different look and feel and also a new experience to build on. In 2006 we had Dan Anderson a Modern Arnis instructor in and it was simply a blast. We focused solely on Espada y Daga and rolled with it for a number of hours. Dan is good at what he does and in the end we all enjoyed training with him.

More to the point of this Blog post is what you can learn from crossing trianing blades or real ones with someone. Once you have been practicing for awhile you can see, feel their intent and also their movement. That is the beauty of it. You also have a window right to their soul if you are adept enough to pick up on it. In those moments when you cross a blade you can pick up an intense amount of information. The flow is always there for you as well all you need to do is let go and enter the Instinctive Response. If you do this then everything is made clear!
