Okay in Instincitve Response Training our term for Crossada is X-Parry! Living and teaching in an english speaking country through the years I have migrated totally to speaking all the names in english. This makes sence because we all speak english and I also draw from systems/styles from all different countries around the world. You would imagine the mess if I used a Japanese term here, Filipino term here (in several different dialects), Korean, Indonesian, Malayan, etc. Well you get the picture, it would be one big mess! So in IRT everything is labeled out in english which is good but also interesting as I really have little desire to label everything!
On to the topic at hand or the X-Parry. This movement can be used with empty hands, empty hand and dagger, empty hand and stick, empty hand and long knife but more popularly it is used and also more recommended when you have two sticks, stick and dagger or long knife and dagger. The structure of the movement or the X allows you to slow down the incoming attack just enough that you may have that opportunity to parry it over or under. That over or under parry may get you on the outside to a strong positional advantage particularly if you in turn take the right angle. Through out the years training I have always enjoyed training with the X-Parry and I have pulled if off a couple of times in the right situation while free sparring. As for the real world. Well lets say that once a long time ago during a shop lifting apprehension I used a modified form of an empty handed X-Parry to deflect an incoming punch and get to the outside. This resulted in being in position for a takedown and an easy arrest with out damage to anyone. While not a blade encounter it was and has continued to be an eye opener for me on the effectiveness of the X-Parry!
See You On The Mats!
