…..The tactical flash light is simply one of the most effective tools you could ever have.  Anyone in the law enforcement, security, military field knows this.  Having the ability to see and or blind your opponent’s night vision is something that is simply priceless.  The current small tactical flashlights in conjunction with a handgun is something that has become a staple for LEO’s and top tier security professionals around the world.  Modern tactical flash lights come in all shapes and sizes but have a couple of distinct features.  One they can be used to illuminate an area and two they can be used to take an opponents vision by temporarily blinding them.  Another and important feature in effective tactical flashlights is that they are sturdy and can be used as a blunt instrument.  This feature allows you to strike vital points, pressure points and potentially incapacitate an aggressive predator.  You can also use a small tactical flashlight like the PentagonLight to also effect joint manipulation techniques.  Through out my employment in the security and law enforcement community I used a variety of tactical flash lights.  They were always a source of comfort as well as just practically useful.  Definitely find one that you like and go with it.  Personally I like the PentagonLight in the above picture and link.  It fits right for what I need and the size is not encumbering.  However there are several other good models out there.  For $60 to $100 you should be able to find an excellent one that will probably last a life time.
