Stealth Movement During A Home Invasion!

website-angled-elbow4

…..Okay imagine that in the middle of the night you hear a noise in your house.  Would you wake up and want to make a lot of noise?  Could you arm yourself quietly?  If you did need to move could you do so silently?  I practice so that I could.  The way a house should be set up is so that the owner is the only one who could move through it quietly.  Every house should have an alarm system plus certain squeaky floors that are misplaced and doors that creak not to mention a dog or two.   This could give the house dweller a tactical advantage in the moment.  Having and being able to move quietly and at the right moment in time is an essential skill set.  One that is often neglected in almost all martial systems.  Because of the way our eyes are set just like other predators we humans notice movement very well.  So the less you move is quite often better for you.  Still though in a life or death home invasion you may need to move and not only quickly but also quietly.  These skills are pretty basic to master but could be essential in the moment.   During a home invasion you should have quick and easy access to dialing 911 and the ability to coordinate a defensive position.  If that position is compromised then you may need to move quietly.  There are many approaches to stealth movement and truthfully it is easy to learn with some self practice though having a qualified instructor would never hurt.  When moving remember to breath and relax and change weight slowly.  This will minimize noise and also since you are moving slowly your movement may be harder to pick up.  If you can, change levels as that can always be pretty effective.  I cannot show you how to move via the Internet but remember seek a defensive position first and dial 911 but if you need to move, do so quietly in a relaxed manner and take care of business.  Hope fully you are never placed in this type of situation but if you are I wish you the best of luck!

    Very important idea, Brian!

Though I’ve got mixed feelings on alarms. Too often, they’re not used properly or set up properly and aren’t maintained. This leads to false alarms and giving up on the system… And that’s whether it’s a monitored system or just a local alarm.

Similar issues with dogs. If you’re going to count on your dog as part of your security set up — you have to know that the dog will do the job. There was a pretty good series on Discovery or TLC called “To Catch A Thief” where a couple of reformed burglars broke into houses to show security flaws, then upgraded the security systems. Dogs were very unreliable…

    Hey jks9199

I know what you mean in response to alarms being not maintained or providing false alarms. Still if you are serious about your alarm system as a means of home security then you will ensure that it is maintained properly. I look at an interior/exterior home alarm system as an early warning system. Meaning it may give the occupants a couple of fractions of a second to prepare.

I view dogs in the same way. They need to be trained and understand their function. Otherwise they will in all likelihood just come and want to be petted by the burgler.

Preparation and training are the key in any situation and home invasion is no different.

    Thanks for stopping by!

    Brian
