Last Night!

…..Last night we were chatting after class usually this is a good time to not only get to know each other but also to expand on some key important principles.  Last night the conversation was pretty broad but at one time we were talking about if you are in a physical encounter that in general it is best to wait and have a lawyer present before you elaborate on what happened.  Key advice as I have personally witnessed people dig themselves a hole when all adrenalized and basically say way too much.  Heck that always made what I was doing easier.  However, I also took the time to point out that each and every situation is different and that there could and are situation’s where letting the LEO’s on site know exactly what happened will be to your benefit.  Bottom line in any situation, encounter, interview, etc. they will all be different and unique.  What is good advice for one situation could be drastic or poor advice in another.  We as martial practitioner’s and citizens of our respective country need to be educated so that we can make good decisions in the moment!  Learn as much as you can, read as much as you can and be informed and prepared if needed.  The physical side is very important in the martial sciences but if you only concentrate on the physical and do not also compliment the mental and spiritual then you are doing yourself a disservice!

See You On The Mats!

I take a very slight exception to this. I am not a lawyer — just a cop, but my opinion is a little different. You kind of covered it… but I want to state it explicitly Unless you’ve screwed up and done something stupid & illegal (like it’s after a bar brawl or something), I suggest you give a BRIEF statement to the effect “I was attacked, and feared that I would be hurt or killed, and defended myself, and I don’t want to say anything more without the advice of counsel.” Might save you a trip to jail while things are sorted out…

Absolutely jks9199 you and I are in full agreement on this point and we covered that as well unfortunately looking at my post I did not elaborate that well. Thanks for the tip as always!
