Xingyiquan!

…..Okay I came across this video yesterday and thought I would share.  My experiences with the Chinese martial systems are and have been fairly limited to this point.  This is some thing I intend to correct soon.  Enjoy this clip on Xingyiquan which talks about the history of the system.

See You On The Mats!

So now your contributing to my addiction 🙂

Xingyiquan is beyond any doubt my absolute favorite CMA style and I have trained a few. Sadly a qualified sifu is hard to find, I am currently without one but I am looking for another one.

I do not do Wudang Xingyiquan however, thank you for finding that and letting me see what Wudang is like. My style is Hebei.

As for the Yueh Fei link I am glad they listed that as mythological. The link to Xinyiquan is much easier to prove.

Thanks for that Brian and if you get to train CMA let me know I would be very intersted in hearing what you think.

    Hey Tim,

Glad you liked the clip and it looked very, very interesting. Particularly talking about the forward movement and that it was based off a spear system. We work a lot with the Yari in the Bujinkan so it would be fascinating to see some of the similarities and differences. My CMA influence would be through the far removed Jeet Kune Do line and also a smattering of Wing Chun. (not enough WC to really say I trained) So in the future I want to expand and see what the CMA’s have and explore on that end. Maybe a trip to China or Taiwan is in the making. 😉

Xingyiquan is pretty much based on attack. Part of the Xingyi philosophy is “Attack is defense and defense is attack” and as my last Sifu put it; “Xingyi doesn’t back up”. In reality it does have some backwards movements but even those tend to attack. Something else to consider about Xingyiquan is that it is that at its base is stance training, which was mentioned in the video. However I want to add that the main stance, which is also the fighting stance, is Santi Shi and from the Xingyi sifus that I have talked to it seems that the general consensus is that you need to stand in santi for about 30 minutes per side per day to gain a good base. But you must also be standing correctly as well. With out proper posture that hour of standing a day is not going to help you.

As to China, who knows maybe we will run into each other there 🙂
