Do You Practice With Firearms?

Okay I am a realist and a pragmatic person in general and one thing I make sure is that I am up to date on world events and changes in the world in general.  This also includes the Martial Sciences in that I like to stay up to date.  So part of that includes training with the most effective tools available and definately that means I train with Firearms.

What kind of firearms do I like?  Well with handguns ever since I was introduced to Glock’s I have never looked back.  The first Glock I owned was the Glock 17.  A beautiful 9 mm handgun that really made me fall in love with the Glock.  The handle was right for my hands and with it I shoot very well.  Over time I wanted a little more bang so I moved up to the Glock 22 model a 40 caliber handgun that is simply AWESOME!  One thing I particularly like about the Glock is the lack of a safety.  My safety has and always will be my finger.  Once I place the finger on the trigger you can bet it will be time to shoot.  No fancy safeties for me on these handguns and that is a plus all the way around.  Yes Glock has never let me down.  However I also enjoy other firearms and for self defense purposes I settled on a shotgun that is the only one to meet the rigorous standards of the US military and that is the Mossberg 590A1.  This beautiful pump action shotgun can hold it’s own with the best of them and is built to take a beating and that is important with the way I use firearms.   I don’t want anything to complicated or pretty as I am in all ways a realist/pragmatic and my firearms all see some action.  Another nice thing about the Mossberg 590 A1 is that it has a bayonet lug.  That is right, for home defense it is hard to beat this baby.   I am also a fan of the US Military designed M16A2 and the M4A1.  These firearms certainly perform well for me even though I will admit that their are better ones out there.  Still they are what I have trained with and found efficient for my personal protection needs.  I must be onto something because the US Military finds them efficent for their needs in Iraq and Afghanistan.  However having said all of that and being a Glock lover I will admit that other people will find different firearms more to their liking and the best thing to do is to go to a range get instruction on a variety of models and then make your choice.

When dealing with firearms always get instruction and pay particular attention to detail in use and safety instructions!  Accidents can happen and it is your responsiblity to know how to safely use a firearm and discharge it!  When at ranges always remember to control where your barrel is pointing and never flash (place your barrel) on anyone during training.

I advise anyone to get training, know the laws of your state and if possible get a CPL or CCW so that if needed you can carry this tool!

Last note: Do not be the one!  What does that mean?  Do not be the one to not be responsible with your firearms.  Take good care of them and most importantly make them safe with safety locks and locked in stoarage (yet accesible when needed) so that an accident never happens in your household!

The 2nd amendment is your right so exercise it!

Brian, I have a model 1911 Taurus .45 tactical w/laser grips. I have been happy with this particular weapon. Lots of knockdown power and versatility. Though it’s a little bulky to use as a concealed weapon, as with the Glock, it is a good choice for home protection.

    Hey Tony,

I like the 1911 model myself though I have not worked alot with the Taurus version. Still a .45 is always a good choice for self deense. You are right though that it is a little bulky. Still you can pull off with it being concealed easily with a fanny pack and still have that knockdown power.
