Through this Blog: The Instinctive Edge I like to from time to time spotlight different martial artists from around the world. This time out we are looking at a martial system from the Philippines. I am a firm believer in Filipino Martial Arts training. The footwork, emphasis on tools (particularly the blade) and the overall movement is simply formidable.
Yuli Romo
Today’s spotlight is on BaHad Zu’Bu and it’s Grandmaster Yuli Romo. It was a number of years ago that I had begun hearing about Yuli Romo from people and the buzz was all very, very positive. So I started to look around and found some video footage and as his organization has grown so has the footage and accessibility. I particularly like the leg movement in Bahad Zu’Bu as what I have seen coincides with what I do as well. Particularly moving off on angles in a V or X. I particularly like that it is a blade based art with no weapon to weapon blocking technique’s but preemptive situational destructions, parrying methods and of course explosive disraming techniques.

Kamusta, Thanks Brian for the plug..we greatly appreciate it. It as an ongoing effort to bring Master Yulis work to the west. I work diligently at the task and I am always available to those who wish to learn. In the end it is all movement, nothing advanced or secretive just solid, practical Pilipino combat methodology with a counter clock wise twist.
Salamat

Hey Mike,
You are doing great and I for one appreciate your effort and of course Master Yulis effort as well. I look forward to the time when we get together and train and also to someday making a trip to the Philippines and training with Master Yuli personally.

PG Blackgrave is also a frequent member of the peanut gallery on guru Bobbe Edmond’s blog. Bobbe is part of the eclectic cast of characters that grace the Gathering of Tribes in Grand Rapids. Just another good reason to go this year! Perhaps we will see Mr Blackgrave there in the future as well?
Hey Nate,
I have to make it over there myself sooner or later. One of these day’s the stars will align and I will make it there.
