…..There are quite a few good books to read regarding the martial sciences.  I usually like practitioner’s to read some of the classics first.  With that I always recommend the following books:

The Book Of Five Rings by Miyamoto Mushashi

and

The Art Of War by Sun Tzu

Amazon links: The Book of Five Rings & The Art of War

…..After these two classics then there is an assortment of good books to read whether from a philosophical or mental point or from a technique point.  Here are some books that I enjoy!

The Gift Of Fear by Gavin De Becker

Living The Martial Way by Forrest E. Morgan

Brazilian Jiujitsu Theory and Technique by Renzo and Royler Gracie

Brazilian Jiujitsu The Master Text by Helio Gracie

Stick Fighting Techniques of Self Defense by Massaki Hatsumi

Modern Arnis: The Filipino Art of Stick Fighting by Remy Amador Presas

Espada y Daga by Dan Anderson

…..There really are so many books that I enjoy and this is but a small sample so it should get your started.

    I’d add at least two:
    On Killing by David Grossman.
Meditations on Violence by Rory Miller.

  2. Hey jks9199,

The first one On Killing is an excellent book. I have yet to purchase Meditations on Violence but will based on your recommendation! 🙂

You’ll enjoy it. You might want to check out Rory Miller’s blog, too. (http://chirontraining.blogspot.com/) Yours and his are two of the few that I check daily.

Thanks jks9199. I will definitely do that!
