Pretty simple, right? You train like you fight!
If you don’t take a range or skill set into account in your training you probably won’t have skills to deal with that. If you don’t have wrestling skills, takedown defense, submissions you may be in trouble if someone takes you to the ground. Likewise if you grapple but don’t account for the knife on the ground or dirty tactics like eye gouging, groin strikes or a gun coming into play you may be surprised when that happens as well.
If a guy has a machete and you have never trained against a medium sized bladed weapon it sucks to be you!
This really isn’t hard to understand but the same flaws traditional martial arts practitioners made are being made now by BJJ or MMA practitioners, etc.
How to avoid this? Constantly train and learn and step out of your comfort zone. Train consistently, learn and never discount what someone else is doing or their skill sets. Instead, analyze everything and everyone. If you have a friend who does something different in the Martial Sciences, learn from them. Explore and do not discount or stifle your growth!
See You On The Mats!!!
