…..I was teaching the other day and showing a practitioner how to break down each technique movement by movement and not omitting any details. When practicing some times we rush through a movement and invariably when that happens we tend to let a detail slide here or there. I have found through the years that all of my teachers would emphasis slowing down and paying attention to each detail. In doing so you refine the technique and in the end make it smoother. Now of course in real time against a resisting opponent you will have to adjust the details and of course one or two might be missed or modified. This is natural in real time and why a violent encounter may not have some of the beautiful movement found in a demonstration. So when practicing I try to emphasize paying attention to the details, refining your movement and slowly bringing up the speed of your movement. Going this route you will improve and become smooth in your movement! That is in the end a very admirable goal!
