…..I try to be meticulous in my pursuit of having strong basics. I personally spend a lot of time going over and over and over again the basic movements that are a part of IRT. The little details that make up the movements are a core integral part of what I do and what other IRT practitioner’s do in our martial science. So I am a stickler for having good basics and performing them over and over again. I think this really shows up particularly strong in a few certain areas of my skill sets. For instance when grappling there are simply a lot of people who know more techniques than what I do. In the Jiujitsu world everyone seems to be rushing to the next great move rather quickly. Since I have been doing this for roughly fourteen years every day on the mat grappling with someone I have a pretty extensive set of moves. However, I routinely do simple basic moves and change the order or create a situation where it is easy to perform them. These basics are pretty strong in my repertoire. Recently when perusing ADCC clips and listening to commentary I noticed that one of the Gracie’s went through the competition submitting everyone by a bent arm lock. Again and again he performed a very basic technique against the worlds best and was effective with it! Your basic skills are more than likely what will carry you through the day in a violent encounter. So never neglect them and always utilize them over and over again. Polish them and reinforce them and in the end in that moment of violence hopefully they will carry you through the day!
See You On The Mats!
