So Last Night We Were In The Rain!

…..Okay so last night we trained outside on cement in a local park.  The rain was coming down pretty hard for about the first forty five minutes or so which definitely affected everyones vision a little bit.  Those of us with gloves were the lucky ones as it was decidedly cold after a bit.  Those without gloves will remember them next time.  We trained exclusively with solo baston or single stick utilize short hammer like strikes found in Balintawak and also later with strikes where you are pointing the stick.  Takas, Sublique were looked at in detail as well as how to strike in various ways off of those two techniques.  Then we moved into 6 and 10 count to basically keep warm and finally we got into the meat of what we were working on and that is stick disarming techniques.  Now I do not look for disarms and just let them happen.  I have been pretty fortunate in the past to pull of my fair share and I was almost always surprised when I had both my stick and my opponents.  Stick disarms are essential skill sets in my opinion because they can give you an edge and if you really understand them you can also see how they work against a blade.  However even with the more complex moves as I always tell the practitioners that I work with my favorite move is just to hit and destroy the opponents hand.  That is the ultimate disarm and one that has served me very, very well through the years.

Next Wednesday Full Contact Rattan Sparring training techniques and of course the Full Contact part!
