IRT Movement Forms!

In Instinctive Response Training we have what we call Movement Forms!  These are not rigidly patterned movements but instead free-flowing creative movement that allows the practitioner to utilize their skill sets while relaxing and moving in any manner they see fit.  Typically the progression starts out with a practitioner practicing a Movement Form concentrating on rolling, breakfalls, evasion, etc. then it moves into hand strikes and kicking then onto trapping hands and joint lock manipulation.  At even higher points in progression the practitioner will do Movement Forms on grappling and of course weapons/tools.  There is of course no set starting or stopping point just free flow with the practitioner stopping when they feel like it.  You can combine everything together as well!  You could be working on trapping hands and joint manipulation and add in kicks, knees and pull a tool and move and flow into that.  It is designed to be completely creative and allow full expression with no restrictions!  Initially it is hard for a practitioner but after a few times they get in the groove and I think even amaze themselves. (they usually amaze me with their movement)  IRT is all about creativity!  I train people to think on their feet and explore what is out there.  I am not interested in turning out carbon copies but instead quality martial practitioners who can in turn go out and learn on their own and then hopefully come back and share with me!  Practitioners who in the end can stand on their own two feet and be effective and creative!  My proudest moments are when someone reaches a level where they can do their own thing!  Movement forms are just one way we go about trying to achieve this!  So far the results have been great!

See You On The Mats!
