Recently we have had some terribly tragic events in Aurora and also in Wisconsin. My heart goes out to all people involved and I hope you find some peace. These type of tragic situations like what happened in Norway at the teen camp are just sickening. We as martial practitioner’s need to understand that violence happens and can happen anywhere and at anytime. This is why we train to have the opportunity to protect ourselves and our loved ones. While you cannot train for everything that could occur. You certainly can train realistically and pay attention to what is happening in the world and what crimes are occurring. Tragedies will happen and there is almost no way to stop all of them. Yet, if we prepare and pay attention we may have a chance. Always be aware of your surroundings and current crime trends. Always try to avoid situations or places where violence and crime can happen. Be prepared to Act if necessary. Your everyday training needs to have your focus and preparation so that if violence happens you have a chance to respond or avoid! Awareness, Avoidance and Action need to be a part of your daily routine topped off with lots of serious training where your mind-set is focused on this task! Violence happens do not bury your head in the sand but instead prepare and in the moment you may have a chance!
