I first became very aware of the Predator/Prey mentality one night in the early eighties in Boston, Ma. I have since seen it several large cities. I have seen it in a few smaller ones as well and I believe in the smaller ones it has a lot to do with the economic health or lack thereof in that community. However in places I grew up in or where I currently live, both which are most definitely defined as suburbs it is not as prevalent. But ultimately I think this is about awareness of ones surroundings and in a large city or even some of the smaller ones it is part of survival. You have to be aware of your surroundings in order to avoid problems. However in the suburbs in is not as necessary. The problem occurs when the predators look to the suburbs for prey because many of those that live there simply do not pay attention because, in general, they do not have to.
