When I first started in the Martial Sciences I wanted to be effective and capable at defending myself and my loved ones. Through out the years this has been my driving force. With that in mind I have spent well over thirty years learning the Martial Sciences and how to survive in violent situations. What I have also done is taken that want of being effective to mean being effective in any situation! This goes beyond just physical violence but also to be effective in helping someone if they are having a life threatening emergency like heat exhaustion, etc. (ie. knowing first aid and CPR) This would also include being effective in a natural disaster or a man-made situation. ie. terror attack, etc. In Michigan we could and did regularly lose power during the winter months from an ice storm, etc. So you had to prepare for that. Out west we could have a major fire, earthquake, etc. So how to be prepared. First you need to have a plan to provide Security through hand to hand, blunt, bladed or firearm technology. Then you need to have your shelter situation worked out with at least a couple of options. (ie. primary residence and or bug out cabin, etc.) Then you need to secure and be able to provide water. You will also then need to have available food and plenty of it! Finally you need to have multiple forms of transportation like any and all types of cars, motorcycles, bicycles, etc. Being a martial practitioner in IRT means more than just studying the physical violence side but also understanding how to be effective in any situation. Hunting, fishing, fire making skills, CPR and first aid, etc. you owe it to yourself and your loved ones to be effective and efficient in any situation and to be the one who is calm, cool and collected in the moment and prepared for many situations and contingencies!
The following video shows the ten most critical food supplies to have in your house.
You do not need to go crazy in your survival preparedness or “prepping” as it is called but you do need to take precautions because in a natural disaster, etc. you will be the one who will more than likely determine you and your families fate. The government and additional help from local friends might be a while coming! So take a few small steps and prepare a little with at least a week planning of food, etc. (though I would really recommend supplies that can last months) Be responsible and ensure that you and your family have a chance!
