I’ve been traveling abroad and just enjoying sight-seeing, being a tourist and of course training in the Martial Sciences. It is amazing really how few people actually train in their native martial arts. The numbers when I have travelled abroad in my journey’s have been very low. They might have heard about them but not experienced what their own unique culture has to offer in this area. I do get it. Not everyone wants to train. It is a small percentage of people who actually want to partake but it is disappointing at times. So on this recent journey I had the opportunity to learn some Silat from a practitioner at a resort who has studied several Silat systems in Java and a Silat system from Bali. We had a brief training session where he showed me some specifics on these Silat systems and I am of course eternally grateful. When you are travelling try to pick up some skills from local practitioner’s and learn! Be a student, and learn. You may just find that this will not only make you happy at the time but also invigorate your training when you get home. Most importantly, explore as this is what the Martial Sciences are all about. Your personal exploration!
See You On The Mats!!!
