CJI 2

Okay so the Craig Jones Invitational 2 was this weekend in Las Vegas.  It was a team format which I didn’t find quite as exciting as the Individual format from CJI 1.  Still, in the team championship match B-Team won.  There will be lots of bitching from certain people about the rules but hey if the final match is that important then have your best guy in it.  B-Team did that and they won.

In the super match (note it is not a fight) Chael Sonnen was submitted so easily twice by Craig Jones that it really looked fixed.  However, let’s face it Chael who was a world class MMA fighter at one point is just a mediocre submission grappler, so I guess it really shouldn’t have been a shock!  Elite BJJ against a wrestling only base is not really fair at this level.  Still, give Chael all the credit in the world for stepping up and taking this match on short notice.  Hats off, cool guy…

Buggy Choke With Chael Going To Sleep...

The women events stole the show!  They were great and if you enjoy submission grappling women’s matches are always very good and very technical.  Helena Crevar showed once again why she is so amazing!  I have watched her several times and her technical skill level is amazing…   Future notes, more women and higher pay!!!

The sad thing about submission grappling  is that there really is no single event where you get all of the best grapplers in the world competing.  In CJI 2 you got the majority of them but still a few were not able to attend. The UFC wouldn’t allow their BJJ competitors to attend and the Rotoulo brothers were missing in action as well!  I will say this though.  With the money that is going to the CJI athletes they have to be considered at the top of submission grappling world and because of that the best!  If there had been an individual format and Nicky Rodriguez had won it once again there we be no doubt that he is the best heavyweight in the world.  I will say this in competition if your not currently competing your not the best anymore.  Maybe you were at one point but your not anymore.  If your on an exclusive contract and only compete against lower level talent, your not the best either!  All the guys throwing stones from the side?  You might have been good but your not that guy anymore.  Credit to the current group of compettors who are pushing the sport forward right now!!!  Anyways, off my soap box, and a big congratulations and hats off to Craig Jones for another exciting event!  Maybe a CJI 3????  Bring back the individual matches…

See You On The Mats!!!
