Okay having the ability to take out your handgun and rapidly shoot until a threat is stopped is an essential firearm self defense skill. The rapid fire approach that I use is simply a point shooting method where I point my finger at what I wish to shoot and then unload a magazine. If more was needed I would drop the magazine in the handgun and insert another one. Of course the goal of any personal protection skill set with a firearm is to neutralize the threat that is coming at you. You also have to have a justifiable reason to use lethal force. I would always advise consulting an attorney in your area that is familiar with this segment of the law so that you have a clear picture of what you can and cannot do to defend yourself or your loved ones with reasonable force under the circumstances. When using the Rapid Fire approach you are attempting to neutralize the incoming attacker who has upped the self defense situation to a lethal force action. With Rapid Fire you unload until the thread is neutralized.
In the following video I show a close range rapid fire technique from a draw on my strong side. In this particular clip I unload a full magazine of 15 shots from a Glock 22, 40 caliber. Rapid fire training is an essential skill in a persons handgun defensive skill set. Currently it is taught all over the country and when I just went through the NRA CPL course here in Michigan they covered it as well. Previously I have covered it during training many times including when going through the police academy. The goal of the Rapid Fire Shooting is to unload the gun and place as many shots around the torso area but not necessarily in too tight of a pattern. In other words you are trying to spread around the pattern. All firearm training can be inherently dangerous so please seek qualified instruction when training. This video is for demonstration purposes only.
