…..Practice, practice, practice. That was the message from yesterday’s post. Going along with that you also need to pace yourself. We each have a finite amount of mileage that we can put on our body and yet still be a brutally effective martial practitioner. As I have gotten older things that I did in my youth while practicing I simply would not due today. I simply do not recover as quickly. So I practice not only religiously every day but I practice with a fine eye for good technique and I watch my mileage. What does that mean? Even though I may be working out incredibly hard and stressing my body I also have an eye to watch how far I go and to ensure that I do not do things that will damage my body during this training. I want to ensure that I keep my training going, be able to go on and to watch the mileage. This is important and I believe even more so as we get older. A wise teacher once said to me, “Brian, train smart, train with an eye for perfection but also make sure you can continue training.” That holds true to this day. Watch your mileage, ensure that you can continue training and be in this for the long haul!
See You On The Mats!
