Eliminating weaknesses!

*Rare Double Post Day*

…..As a martial practitioner one of the very important things you can do is as a good friend of mine says, “Polish The Stone“.  This means of course to constantly practice but within that constant practice one needs to pay special attention to their weak points.  It is very, very easy to practice things we are good at and that feel good to us.  So much so that many practitioners get caught in the trap of working constantly on things that they are good at.  Quite often this means methods of striking either empty-handed or also with tools, submissions, etc.  Unfortunately the less glamorous things like defense, escapes, reversals, etc. do not get practiced as much. irregardless of what you like to do to “Polish The Stone” effectively one must work on eliminating ones weakness.  See what you do poorly and work on it to build up your skill sets.  The more you can eliminate a weakness and make it a strength the better a martial practitioner you will be!  A long time ago when I was kickboxing as well as point fighting a good friend of mine mentioned that my countering skills were very neglected.  I took his advice to heart and went to work on eliminating that weakness.  I can still remember to this day shortly after that countering someone with a hook and knocking them out!  Throughout the years looking at where I had a weakness and getting after it and doing what I could to make it better has paid off in dividends!  It does not mean to neglect what you are good at but instead that there is a lot more work to be done!

Polish that stone!

See You On The Mats!
