Minute Adjustments In Real Time!

In a real confrontation one of the things that could save your life when physical contact is occurring is the ability to make minute adjustments in real-time!  Having the skill set to move a millimeter or more one way or the other could be the deciding factor whether you get cut or hit with a hammer or just punched in the face.  How does one develop this ability at defensive maneuvering?  Well first one has to train and learn technique.  Then one has to understand what you are doing.  Of course then you have to apply in real-time ie. against a resisting opponent so that you gain faith in what you are doing.  Then if you have done all the above in the moment you just need to let go and let your training come forth!  So when learning how to make minor and minute adjustments in real-time during training we need to of course concentrate on angles, footwork, lots of body movement.  Instill in ourselves the mind-set that we do not want to take damage!  Then we need to put into application these skills with a partner who is also working on their skills in a manner that both can benefit from.  Usually this can be occurred easiest starting out with drills then moving onto padded stick sparring followed by rolling while grappling and eventually moved onto full contact sparring both empty-handed and with rattan.  In IRT training we start out slow other than drills and padded stick sparring.  After awhile we move from positional rolling to submission grappling and then onto full contact sparring in all its forms.  I cannot count how many times I moved from a place where I would have been hit only to slightly evade the opponents attack and then counter them.  This type of skill set is essential for a Martial Practitioner!  You have to be able to make adjustments because violence comes in a lot of different ways!
