Australia, what a fantastic country! When a friend of mine asked me to come to Australia and visit and teach how could I refuse! Australia is a magical place that every one of my countrymen is interested in. With diverse creatures such as the Kangaroo, wallaby, platypus, koala bear, etc. it touches the imagination on almost every level. What makes Australia even better than its diverse climate, creatures, etc. is the people who inhabit it. Australians are rugged, charismatic people who are highly adventurous but above all they are extremely welcoming and kind. During my time in this country I met so many varied people but each and every one of them was simply wonderful and kind.
Training was great! The seminar was fun and we covered various counts from our IRT system such as the 1 count, 2 count, 3 and 4 count and applications from them. I also covered some empty hand versus the blade and little grappling with the knife. Empty hand wise we worked on the High/Low Takedown, Front High/Low Takedown, Reverse Rotational Takedown as well as several other methods for landing your opponent on their back. All in all the two-day seminar was a blast and I had a lot of help from Russ, Gavin and Chris Parker as my training partners for demonstration.
My opinion of Australian martial practitioner’s is very high. It may be that I was fortunate to meet and train with some of the best! Keep practicing and I am already looking forward to the next time.
Here is where we trained:
If you are in Australia and specifically Melbourne I highly recommend training with Russ Grosvenor and Mal McRae. Definitely two of the best in all Australia with a long history and pedigree of turning out solid martial practitioner’s!
Look for more photos and video in the near future on this Australian Seminar!
My wife and I also had the opportunity to travel a bit and see the Twelve Apostles, visit a nature preserve and see some beautiful artwork in a forest. Here are a few pictures from that:
Two of the most amazing people I have ever met and great hosts! Russ and Marjy and their beautiful furry companions!
See You On The Mats!
