I have trained with a lot of different martial instructors through the years and one thing is clearly evident. No one has all the answers. Some may have more but in regards to combative martial skills not one single instructor can give you every answer. They may be able to guide you along a path that is working for them and yes, it might work for you. Yet, it also might not work for you. The attributes, mind set, training, etc. that someone else has had throughout their life may not fit with your attributes, mind set, etc. As an example, I trained once with an incredible instructor in his field. He was simply phenomenal at what he did. He was exceptional because of certain attributes that he possessed. Attributes that most people simply do not have and therefore what he could do was not going to work for others. In your training you need to take this into account. Train with a core instructor but also learn from other instructors. If someone says you should only train with them then leave, no run away and find a different person to work with who has a more open mind. Bottom line is that no one has all the answers for combative situations. Learn, absorb and make it yours. In the end if you encounter violence it will be you who has to deal with the situation at hand!
