Working in Law Enforcement and teaching for Personal Protection I am not a fan of butt scooting in Brazilian JiuJitsu.

All kidding aside.
Okay, I really dont mind butt scooting from a strictly BJJ competition format. I’m not a fan of watching it but I do understand why some athletes go down that road. (lack of size, strength, ability to dominate from the top, etc.) BJJ or Brazilian JiuJitsu has been a staple of my training since 1993ish. (wrestling before that) That’s a long time ago. However, make no mistake that butt scooting is not very effective for real world self defense or personal protection. Whenever you give up mobility you place yourself at a huge disadvantage. Mobility is essential for Personal Protection, LEO work, and giving it up is just not something you do. Maybe your forced on your back but you dont go there willingly without immediately trying to get back up. Being on your back when it really counts is a terrible idea. Dont do it unless forced there. Don’t choose! So stay on your feet, stay on top, if you are forced to your back reversse position or get up. Never settle… Not when it counts!
I can respect Levi Jones BJJ game but I don’t want to watch it. Thankfully Kade Rutoulo won this match even if he did not get to submit Levi who played guard and butt scooted.
See You On The Mats!!!
