All Training Is Simulation…

Okay, everyone training views what they do as the best, most effective, stuff out there. However, all training is just simulation!

What Is Simulation:

From co-pilot…

sim·u·la·tion

[ˌsimyəˈlāSHən]

noun

imitation of a situation or process:

“simulation of blood flowing through arteries and veins””medical video depicting blood flow”

the action of pretending; deception:

“clever simulation that’s good enough to trick you”

the production of a computer model of something, especially for the purpose of study:

If you can’t follow that, try to understand that it is training and it’s not the real thing.  Meaning, it’s just a way to train and hopefully get better and give you some skill sets!

Way to many people think they have figured everything out. (way to many) From the pressure testing guys, force on force guys, technique training people, forms, combat sport competitors, military operators, LEO professionals, etc, etc…  All training is just a  simulation of real world violence!  That means it’s not the real thing.  Nothing completely prepares you for the real thing and for this blog purposes that means spontaneous, unscripted, not competitive or competively mutually agreed upon violence…  It’s when shit happens and you are there and have to deal with it!

Now, as someone who works in a field where violence happens. Ie: law enforcement I’ll give you an opinion on how to train right.  Yes, it’s just an opinion…

1. Classroom/lecture

2. Physically train the technique and or skill set

3. Visualize

4. Pressure Test

5. Evaluate training and real world violence via video or debriefing of an event

6. Cardio, Cardio, Cardio………………………..

Now having said all of that.  I know people who have only done technique training or another aspect and been very successful in a real world Use of Force or violent situation.  So everyone is different.   There is exactly, no one way or the only right way of doing something.  Anyone peddling that is probably trying to sell you something.  Trust me there are lots of people trying to sell some bullshit!  Some even have experience and skill but they want your money…

In the end train, train to the best of your ability, be open to new ideas or information on training.  Leave your ego at the door because you dont know or have experienced everything.  Listen to others experiences and re-evaluate how you are training.  Debrief on training or a real world violent situation or Use of Force.  Understand that all training is simulation for the real thing.  Do not get caught up in someone else’s ego game, don’t hero worship, just do you!

Train, train, train and always make sure your cardio is top notch!
